The toenail is sometimes associated with a particular type of fungal outgrowth that only affects the nail area of the toes. This is called as onychomycosis or paranoychia. It is associated with a change in the color of the toenails and darkening of tissues nearby. This is not a fatal condition neither does it create too many problems for the patient but if left untreated for too long it can cause puss underneath the nail and totally infect the area causing some discomfort and pain while wearing shoes. Also, the smell associated with toenail fungus is not all that pleasant.
The moment one gets infected with this fungus, they should start a treatment for it because the faster its treatment begins the lesser its chances of spreading through the entire foot. Not attending to this fungus shall result in increase and associated complications. Hence, one is advised to visit the doctor and start on medicines that curb its outgrowth.
